How to Determine Your Purpose & Practice Mindfulness

Lately, I’ve been trying to live my best life and walk in my purpose.

Determining your true purpose can be a daunting task and can consume insurmountable amounts time. It took me decades to finally submit and commit to it.

Truthfully, I’ve known my purpose since I was in 4th grade but I just didn’t want that to be my purpose. Instead, I decided to foolishly traverse the world in search of something that was always a part of me.

Lifes’ hard but worth the challenge. Because we’re friends and l love you I want to share some easy ways to determine and walk toward your purpose and passion while practicing mindfulness.

Simply put, mindfulness is paying attention to experiences as they happen in that present moment. It’s intent is to bring awareness to what’s going on around you and how those moments can be used to develop wisdom and help you become more introspective. While reflection isn’t a component of mindfulness, I find that after the moment has passed and there’s time to reflect there’s more to be learned.

Find inspiration through helping others.

My intention is always to give back and service my community and others. In moments where I have the opportunity to volunteer, I leave so full of gratitude and more aware of others and their circumstances. Volunteering and helping others can make the world a better place, help to build your personal tribe, and shift you closer to your purpose and passion.

A few years ago, I spent 7 months working on a campaign for UNICEF to get clean water to children in third world countries. Aside from learning more about other people in various parts of the world, I had the opportunity to volunteer with amazing people that still impact my life.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Trust me. Life will throw plenty of stressors your way in various forms: bad relationships, heartbreak, death, health diagnoses, job loss, you name it! With that in mind, please let the little things go. Instead, focus on those instances that bring value to your life. And believe it our not I’ve found either a blessing or a lesson in almost every situation I’ve faced. Those minor annoyances are just distractions that deter you from greatness.

This concept seems simple but it’s quite difficult.

It requires grounded practice and self-awareness along with prayer and meditation. Its honestly something that I struggle with but am hoping to do better eventually. My mind is always in overdrive: thinking, plotting, planning, etc. Shutting out the noise requires constant effort.

Take a chance.

Sometimes the answer is an unequivocal “YES!” Life has a weird way of putting us on the right path to our purpose if we pay close attention and are mindful.

When opportunities come your way its best to answer in the affirmative because you never know who you’ll meet or where those relationships will take you. If you decline offers and opportunities because you feel that YOU are NOT ready, you're doing yourself a disservice and can potentially block what’s in store for you. Take a chance and live in the moment.

Remember, everything in life is fleeting and temporary. If something results in embarrassment or failure it will not last for long.

This month I challenge you to PRACTICE mindfulness & here are some ways you can do that:

Go for a walk or run outside.  🏃🏿‍♀️

Try yoga. 🧘🏿‍♀️

Sip some herbal tea.  ☕️

Write a letter to a friend & mail it. 💌

Go vegan for 7 days.  🥗

Drink more water.  💧

Use a journal to capture daily gratitude.  ✍🏾

Add a daily meditation to your routine.  🙇🏽‍♀️

I hope that you find these tidbits helpful. Please share steps you've taken to find your passion and become more mindful.
