Starting a day off in the affirmative can typically have positive returns for the remainder of the day. I truly believe this; however, I am not an early riser nor am I willing to sacrifice a nanosecond of sleep in order to get a jump start on my day.

Then someone told me about Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer and that cut my beauty routine by 15-20 minutes. Who knew foundation blending was so time-consuming?

I decided to use the time savings towards investing in my morning routine in an alternative way.

Here are five things you should do every morning that take less than 20 minutes to complete.

They will completely transform your day, then your week and ultimately your life.

Ten minutes of silence and positive thought can seem intimidating at first but the guided narration helps keep you on track the entire time. During that moment you can pray and set a positive intention for your day. Once you do this—you’ll automatically filter out things that don’t serve the purpose of your intention. Drink 16-20 ounces of water.

The way my life is set up I automatically default to coffee as my liquid source of life. However, drinking water first thing in the morning rehydrates your body. It also detoxes your system & allows you to become more mindful of your water intake throughout the day. if possible, opt for a natural spring water. Adding fresh lemon can be a game-changer.

Stretch for five minutes.

After I turned 30 nothing in or on my body functioned properly anymore. True story! Starting off with a full body stretch brings awareness to all your limbs and lets your body know it’s time to get the day started. The stretch will make you more limber and less stiff. Feel free to make those excessive noises that naturally come when you stretch.

Make a list.

Write a list of five things that you need to accomplish for the day. Make the most difficult task your first priority. Also, at least one of the five tasks should be something for yourself. A workout, a manicure or even a solo stroll in the park.

Focus on gratitude and gratefulness.

Beginning your day with good intentions and gratitude will help you stay focused and our your path. When someone turns without using a signal tap into gratefulness that you have a car to drive. When a coworker eats your lunch, be grateful that your first Postmates delivery is free.
